British soul and pop band Simply Red are heading to the Cumbrian village of Cartmel for a day at the races.
Thirty years after introducing a generation to the joys of soul music through their irrepressible, irresistible rendition of the Valentine Brothers’ recession-themed classic Money’s Too Tight To Mention, Simply Red are back with a World Tour and a brand new album ‘Big Love.’
And in spring they will be performing after the races at Cartmel Racecourse on Saturday May 28 2016 in the first major post-racing concert ever to be staged at the Cumbrian track.
The band are acclaimed worldwide for hits including For Your Babies, Stars, If You Don’t Know Me By Now, Holding Back the Years and Fairground.
The announcement comes as it is revealed that music promoters Cuffe and Taylor have formed a partnership with Cartmel Racecourse to produce a weekend of live music. In addition to Simply Red on May 28 another concert will be announced soon for Sunday May 29.
Cuffe and Taylor promote live music across the UK. The hugely successful Lytham Festival, Betley Concerts and Greenwich Music Time are among the company’s festivals and events, which has seen them work with artists including Tom Jones, Neil Diamond, Billy Ocean, McBusted, Faithless, Collabro and Katherine Jenkins.
Next year the company is working with Simply Red at a number of festivals and director Peter Taylor said he is delighted to be able to bring them to Cartmel.
He said: “We have long been impressed by the popularity of Cartmel Racecourse and it is with absolute pleasure that we are now in a position to announce that we are working with them.
“This is very exciting for everyone involved. We are looking forward to working with the racecourse team and a wide range of Cumbrian suppliers to put together a professional and popular event which will include music from Simply Red next May.”

Tickets to see Simply Red at Cartmel Racecourse are priced from £32.50 for adults and include full entry to the races on Saturday May 28. Tickets for 13-17-year-olds are £15 and children aged 12 and under go free. VIP packages are available from £125.
