BROADCASTER JEREMY VINE TO DRUM WITH RAP-ROCK OUTFIT Y.O.U.N.G

Broadcaster and journalist Jeremy Vine is ditching his mic and picking up the drumsticks to perform with up-and-coming rap-rock outfit Y.O.U.N.G.

Y.O.U.N.G have been turning heads with their exciting blend of alt-pop, rap and rock having developed a fervent fanbase across Europe. They are currently on their first UK headline tour and decided to ask Jeremy if he wanted to join them.

The celebrated broadcaster is already a fan of the group having seem them live last year which he followed up with an invite to perform on his popular Radio 2 show.

And this Sunday, he will provide the drums to Y.O.U.N.G’s cover of will.i.am’s hip-hop song I Got It From My Mamma when they headline at London’s Camden Assembly.

As a teenager Jeremy was in a number of bands with friends and his brother, the comedian Tim Vine, as a teenager.

With names such as Wait and SeeThe Sharp SuitsTwo Can Talk and The Flared Generation, they never made it musically, although The Flared Generation was the subject of some mocking media attention as the punk band who thought it was cool to wear flared trousers.

And they did get a review in pop magazine Smash Hits but only as “the most unfashionable punk band in the country.”

Speaking about performing as guest drummer with Y.O.U.N.G, Jeremy said: “When I first saw these guys perform I was blown away. It was an acoustic set in a living room and you could feel the musical power and the sheer exuberance. To say they are a little better than the Flared Generation is the understatement of 2018!

“I invited them onto my Radio 2 show so more people could hear their fantastic sound and I’m delighted they’re now on their first UK headline tour.

“For me to be asked to drum with them is pretty special. At last I can do that thing where you spin your drumstick around your head, and people will actually be watching.

“I believe Y.O.U.N.G will go far and I’ll be able to look back and say I was on stage with them in the early days. That, at least, has to make my kids think I’m a bit of a cool dad!”

Y.O.U.N.G frontman Chez Davis said: “We couldn’t believe it when Jeremy said he was going to perform with us. It will be an epic night and one that will live long in the memory.

“This is an amazing time for us. We’re working hard and are determined this is just the start of something very exciting.”
